Sharjah has more than 22 museums and heritage areas, that provide the perfect platform to showcase the arts, crafts, traditions, and importance of Islam in people’s lifestyles. The first Sharjah Biennial took place in 1993. In 1998, Sharjah was rewarded as the: “Cultural Capital of the Arab World” by UNESCO, the “Capital of Islamic Culture” in 2014, and was crowned Capital of Arab Tourism in 2015.

These awards will encourage all tourists to explore many heritage sites and museums in Sharjah. They can visit museums with their family members and friends to explore and enjoy wonderful experiences in a safe, motivational, and educational atmosphere.

AI Eslah School Museum

Do you want to embark on a journey from the past?

Visiting this museum will give you the chance to learn about the UAE educational system that was adopted in the past. You will get a real experience by sitting at the students’ wooden desks and examine the photos of former students who graduated from this school, which is considered the first formal school in Sharjah.

AI Eslah School Museum opened its doors in 2003. It is located opposite to Bait Al Naboodah Museum, next to Al Arsah Souq in the Heart of Sharjah.

Al Mahatta Museum

Let’s highlight the history of flight in the UAE and the region.

Al Mahatta was the first airport in the region, built-in 1932, and then turned into a museum. It is an important landmark due to its unique collectibles that narrate the history of aviation from man's first attempts to fly, to landing on the moon.

Al Mahatta Museum opened its doors in 2000. It is located in Al Mahatta area, opposite Al Qasimya District in Sharjah, behind the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.

Bait Al Naboodah

Are you familiar with Obaid Al Naboodah's story?

Visiting this museum will get you the chance to learn about the authentic architectural designs of traditional Emirati houses, in addition to, the lifestyle and values of the traditional Emirati culture.

This house is a unique model of the marvelous Sharjah architecture, built in the mid of the 19th century. It has been renovated to tell the story of Obaid Al Naboodah and show how the architecture of his house was influenced by the pearl trade.

Bait Al Naboodah opened its doors in 1995. After its renovation and restoration, Bait Al Naboodah has reopened again in 2018. It is located Al Mareija area in the heart of Sharjah, opposite to Al Eslah School Museum and Al Arsah Souq.

Bait Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamad Al Qasimi

Bait Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamad Al Qasimi is one of the most beautiful heritage houses in the UAE. It was built between 1898 and 1901 and was the residence of Sheikh Saeed and his family. He ruled and signed several agreements while living in this house which reflects the authentic Emirati architectural style.

Bait Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamad Al Qasimi opened its doors as a museum in 1999. It is located near Kalba fort, east coast of the Arabian Gulf.

Hisn Khor Fakkan

Step into that silent grandeur where every single exhibit narrates a precious part of Sharjah’s rich East Coast history and demonstrates Al- Qawasim influence in the region.

The Museum themes are represented through photographs, artifacts, 3D models, technology-driven means, and stories, as well as the design of the building itself.

Hisn Khor Fakkan is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy this outstanding collection. The Museum opened in 2019 and is located in Khor Fakkan.

Sharjah Aquarium

Sharjah Aquarium opened its doors in 2008. It is located in Al Khan Old area, adjacent to Sharjah Maritime Museum.

Sharjah Archaeology Museum

This museum offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich and deep-rooted history of Sharjah. Reports of many excavations and expeditions have shown that humans have been settled in Sharjah for more than 125.000 years.

Sharjah Archaeology Museum opened its doors in 1993. And then moved on 1997 to Al Abar area between the Halwan Children Center and the Sharjah Archeology Authority on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Road leading to the Sharjah Science Museum and Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.

Sharjah Art Museum

This unique museum offers art lovers and all visitors the opportunity to admire the art collections and temporary exhibitions hosted and organized by the museum. In addition, the museum offers the chance for visitors to participate in its programs and workshops.

Sharjah Art Museum first opened its doors in 1997. It is located in the Arts Area, Al- Shuwaihiyeen, near Al-Corniche post office - Heart of Sharjah.

Sharjah Calligraphy Museum

Sharjah Classic Cars Museum

Sharjah Classic Cars Museum first opened its doors in 2008. It was then undergone remarkable renovations and re-opened in 2013. It is located along the Airport road, next to Sharjah International Airport and opposite Sharjah Discovery Centre.

Sharjah Discovery Centre

Sharjah Fort (Al Hisn)

Al Hisn was renovated in 1996 and reopened its doors in 2015. It is located in the Heart of Sharjah- Al Shuwaihen area behind Souq Al Shanasiya.

Sharjah Heritage Museum

The museum offers a great chance to engage in the rich heritage of Sharjah and the Emirati culture, with a focus on Sharjah residents’ lifestyle over the past decades. Sharjah Heritage Museum opened its doors in 2005. It has been renovated and re-opened in 2012 in Bait Saeed Al Taweel Al Shamsi, in the Heart of Sharjah.

Sharjah Maritime Museum

Sharjah Maritime Museum opened its doors in 2003 in the Heritage Area. It was relocated to a new building in Al Khan area and re-opened in 2009.

Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization

The Islamic Museum was first inaugurated in the Heritage Area in 1996. The museum was then re-opened under the name "Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization" in 2008, after transferring the re-interpreted and re-displayed collections from the previous museum to this redesigned state-of-the-art museum.

It is unique for its location along the Al-Majarrah Waterfront in the Heart of Sharjah and for being the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates. The museum displays thousands of unique artifacts that highlight the great Islamic Civilization from the first century AH (7 AD) to the fourteenth century AH (20 AD). Visitors to the museum can explore the discoveries and inventions of Muslim scholars throughout ancient Islamic history.

Sharjah Science Museum

Sharjah Science Museum opened its doors in 1996. It is located in Al Abar area on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Road leading to Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.
